Little Rascals breed dogs without guarantee of sale, often resulting in unsold older puppies being ‘discounted’ and sold off cheaply (if they’re lucky).
Little Rascals (Edward Swindells, Bridgett and Peter Dickens) breed dogs on such a large scale, they need to advertise widely to sell their stock so, apart from a dedicated website, Facebook page, Twitter, YouTube and Petplan, some of the classified sites they use to sell or promote puppies are:
- gunstar facebook
Favourite adjectives: “friendly“; “cute“; “amazing“; “adventurous“; “gentle“; “devoted“; “energetic“; “stunning“; “beautiful“; “playful“; “gorgeous“; “lively“; “cheeky“; “loving“; “charming“; “loyal“; “adorable“; “affectionate“; “devoted“.
Dubious terms: “home bred“ , “pedigree” (sometimes even “full pedigree“), “much loved“and “mum and dad can be seen“.
Little Rascals get away with using the term “home bred” for their commercially-bred dogs because the environment in which the puppies are born and reared just happens to be located on their land. It’s incidental, as breeding bitches, stud dogs and puppies spend their lives in kennels and outbuildings, not in anyone’s ‘home’.
An example of Little Rascals’ ‘home bred‘ puppies:
This image was taken by a prospective buyer in an area of Little Rascals’ premises specifically intended for public viewing (hence their statement “no appointment needed“), therefore it does not represent areas that are off-limits to the public and North Kesteven Council licence inspectors, where dogs and puppies are also kept [→ FOIR].
It would be impossible for Little Rascals’ puppies to be home bred, given the sheer number of litters for sale at any one time, which on occasions has been up to THIRTY various ‘designer’ ‘cross’ and ‘pedigree’ litters, so it’s a ridiculous claim to make.
At the time of writing Little Rascals are advertising on their website over TWENTY different litters / breeds, including TWELVE so-called ‘pedigree’ or ‘pure breeds’ and NINE ‘designer’ litters :
Cavaliers, Bichon Frise, Basset Hounds, Cocker Spaniels (Golden), Cocker Spaniels (Black and White), Shih Tzu, Toy Poodles, Westies, Beagles, Cockapoos, Schnauzers, Chihuahuas (various), Pomeranians, Maltipoos, Shih Tzu X, Shug (a Pug crossed with a Shih Tzu apparently), Three-quarter Pugs (they don’t say what the remaining quarter is), Three quarter Schnauzers (same), Malshi’s, Black and White Cockerpoos, Red ‘Sable’ Pomeranians, and alarmingly even Huskies, a challenging breed for first time or novice owners.
The list is alarming, but they get away with it because the law says it’s okay. The law is an ass.
Several owners have made contact to ask for help researching so-called pedigree papers given to them by Little Rascals, and always it’s the same story, a dead end. Judging by the paperwork, Little Rascals possibly use a web service (such as →pedigree templates/software) in order to download software enabling them to fill in any details of their choosing.
But alleging ‘pedigree‘ attracts more business and allows a breeder to charge more, in spite of none of the expensive health and genetic tests normally associated with genuine pedigrees having been undertaken. It’s only when buyers have taken Little Rascals’ puppies home and researched the lineage listed on the paperwork they were given, they discover it is useless and doesn’t amount to a thing.
Little Rascals have never refused to sell a puppy to anyone who had the money to pay. Unlike responsible, ethical breeders, they do not quiz buyers about lifestyle and suitability, because it would make no difference to them anyway, absolutely anyone can take a puppy away from their premises at any time.
As for ‘much loved‘, ask them to show proof of what happens to their unwanted, unsaleable puppies and ex-breeding dogs (and there are many) – the dogs no longer able to profit their business, most of them less than half the age of a normal family dog when they’re discarded or removed (one way or another) as ‘no longer fit for purpose’.
‘Mum and Dad can be seen’
In many cases neither the mum nor the dad can be seen, and they certainly don’t offer to show either parent; a buyer will usually have to ask.
We haven’t yet seen evidence that anyone has asked to see the dad, and many buyers either do not expect to see the mum (why??) or have asked to see her and been fobbed off with excuses why it’s not possible ‘at the time’. Among Little Rascals’ reasons to avoid showing mum have been ‘mum’s tired‘, ‘her kennel is being cleaned‘ , ‘it will be stressful for the other mums‘.
This is just one example of outrageous lies and flagrant disregard for advertising standards:
These puppies were presumably imported from their ‘associated kennel in Ireland‘ [Ireland Associates] as they’re advertised with EU Pet Passports, which means mum and dad could most definitely not both be ‘seen’ at Little Rascals’ premises [Artificial Insemination].
As usual, their advertising is full of contradictions, and the puppies here are described as 3 to 6 months old. If Little Rascals were unaware of the birth dates, where did these puppies come from?
